Varanasi: the classic beauty of northern India

In northern India’s state of Uttar Pradesh is the sacred city of Varanasi, once known as Benaras, an exalted pilgrimage centre central to Hindu mythology. The city’s chaotic and colorful environment has led to it being referred to as the spiritual capital of India.
