Virgin Atlantic to increase flights between London Heathrow and Dubai

British carrier Virgin Atlantic has announced plans to ramp up its flights between London Heathrow and Dubai to meet the growing demand for leisure tourism between the two cities. The airline resumed its service last week with a seasonal winter service, operating four flights a week. Starting from October 2024 to March 2025, Virgin Atlantic will increase the service to a daily flight.
Owned by billionaire Richard Branson, Virgin Atlantic previously operated flights to Dubai in March 2019. The London-Dubai route is one of the busiest air routes globally and was ranked as the fourth busiest in 2022, with over 2.697 million seats. It is also the second busiest route for Dubai Airport, after Jeddah.
As the aviation industry continues its recovery, airlines are launching new routes to meet the increasing demand. Virgin Atlantic aims to capture the demand for premium winter sun getaways and provide connections for long-haul customers, connecting them from Dubai via London Heathrow to destinations across North America.
Liezl Gericke, head of international at Virgin Atlantic, expressed excitement about the reintroduction of the popular route, stating, “We look forward to welcoming our customers back on board, whether traveling for business or leisure or heading back to the United Kingdom to reconnect with friends and family.”
Rob Whitehouse, vice president of research at Dubai Airports, commented that this new addition strengthens Dubai’s connectivity and enhances the global appeal of the emirate as a destination and gateway to other cities.
With airlines expanding their routes to Dubai, the emirate is solidifying its position as a global aviation hub. Air India, Air Canada, Cyprus Airways, Maldives-based Beond, and other airlines have recently added Dubai to their list of new destinations.
