Review of the Teamgroup Pro+ 1TB microSD card: An Up-and-coming player in a competitive market

October 23, 2023

Teamgroup recently introduced their newest addition to their lineup of 1TB microSD cards, the Pro+. This particular model is aimed at those who desire higher performance from their removable storage media. The Pro+ joins the Elite, Go, Expert, and Gamer models in Teamgroup’s collection, with the first two being slower A1 models and the latter three being A2 models.

However, test results indicate that the Pro+ does not offer faster speeds as expected. Despite its impressive claimed read/write speeds, both synthetic and real-life performance fell short of expectations. This is not ideal, especially when competing against rivals such as Silicon Power Superior, which offer slightly better performance at a lower price.

Given the strong competition both within Teamgroup’s own product range and from other brands, the Pro+ may struggle to justify its current premium price over other options.

Pricing and availability information:

– Individual purchase: $53.99
– Pack of two: $102.99
– Available for sale in the US, UK, and Australia

The Pro+ card is widely available in capacities ranging from 128GB to 1TB, and a 1.5TB model is expected to launch in 2024. Multi-pack offers are also available, allowing customers to purchase the 1TB card individually or as part of a pair at a slightly lower cost. Overall, the Pro+ is a decent addition to our best microSD buying guide.

Benchmark results for the Teamgroup Pro+ microSD card showed lower speeds than anticipated, ranging from 80 to 84.25 MB/s in read and 79 to 82.25 MB/s in write. These numbers are far from the impressive headline speeds of 160 MB/s in read and 110 MB/s in write. However, it should be noted that these speeds could potentially be achieved using professional card readers, although performance may not be as impressive when used with internal readers found in laptops, tablets, smartphones, or consumer-grade devices.

Specifications of the Teamgroup Pro+:

– Available capacities: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB

For those considering purchasing the Teamgroup Pro+, alternatives to consider are Silicon Power Superior, Sandisk Extreme Pro, and Gigastone. Silicon Power Superior has received a five-star award and is currently the most affordable 1TB microSD card on the market. It offers great value for money and is suitable for most tasks. Gigastone is a relatively new brand, and there are no independent reviews available for their products. However, they do offer a 5-year free data recovery offer on their card, which may be appealing. Sandisk Extreme Pro, on the other hand, is significantly more expensive than the Teamgroup Pro+ and its editor’s choice award was given three years ago. It may not offer the same value for money in comparison.

Testing Methods:
To evaluate the performance of the Teamgroup Pro+, I formatted the card to exFAT and conducted tests using various benchmarking tools such as CrystalDiskMark, Atto, AS SSD, and AJA. These benchmarks provided insight into the card’s best scores achieved. Additionally, I transferred a folder of files totaling approximately 10GB in size to assess its real-life performance. I conducted these tests using a Startech USB Type-C card reader connected to the Type-C connector of a Honor MagicBook laptop.
