Review of the Acemagic AX15 Laptop by TechRadar

November 9, 2023

AceMagic (or Acemagican), a well-known manufacturer of Mini PC systems, has made its first foray into the laptop market with the AX15. The company’s reputation precedes it, but the AX15 marks its first foray into laptops, and it appears that their choice of specifications is aimed at the casual surfer and educational user. Although not boasting the highest processing power, the AX15 features an Intel 12th Generation N95 processor with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. Despite the website’s suggestion, the SSD is actually SATA, not NVMe. The laptop comes installed with Windows 11 Pro, but surprisingly stripped of bloatware, offering a unique and minimalist user experience.

The design features high build quality with a metallic finish and a colorful 15.6-inch IPS display. However, the laptop’s processing power, SATA SSD, and lack of USB ports with bandwidth higher than USB 3.1 Gen 1 are noted as drawbacks. Priced at $299, the AX15 is available for purchase directly from AceMagic and on Amazon.

The single version of the AX15 is available with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, with pricing at $299 directly from the manufacturer. Shipping is free to US customers from the Acemagic US warehouse. Alternatively, the laptop can also be purchased from Amazon.com for $339.98, with a $20 coupon deal currently available. However, availability of the hardware outside these regions is limited to German customers at a price of €359.10 for the same SKU.

In terms of specifications, the AX15 features an Intel N95 processor, Intel UHD Graphics, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and 512GB of SATA M.2 storage. On the design front, the laptop has a metallic skin, a large keyboard, and a 15.6-inch IPS screen, despite the lack of 10Gbps USB ports. Notably, the AX15 features the Intel N95 CPU, with the UHD Graphics GPU, and supports only 9 PCIe lanes, lacking biometrics and other modern connectivity features.

In terms of performance, tests have revealed that the AX15 is on the slower side, with a pruned Windows 11 Pro and only a SATA SSD. Initial setup and updates have caused delays, and a few pre-installed apps are available, providing a unique, though possibly not optimal, user experience. While the AX15 may not boast high processing power, it offers a good build quality and a minimalist user experience, at an affordable price point.
