The Green Planet has recently unveiled a new outdoor nature park just in time for winter. The park features various attractions such as treehouses, an obstacle course, and a nature trail, designed specifically for children aged 4 to 14. With nine gardens showcasing plants from around the world, the park covers an area of 1,000sqm and is home to animatronic bugs including tarantulas, centipedes, and snails. Visitors can first witness the animatronics and then venture into the biodome to observe the real-life counterparts.
The adventure trail at the nature park offers children the opportunity to explore nine different treehouses, slides, and obstacles. From lush palms and tropical species to zen gardens and orchids, there is a wide array of plants from unique parts of the world to admire. Additionally, there is a separate soft play area with animal character designs for children to enjoy.
For the month of October, visitors can experience the special Spooky Planet theme, complete with a Halloween maze, spooky decorations, and new activities such as pumpkin carving, pumpkin painting, and face painting.
A full-day pass for both a child and an accompanying adult is priced at Dh69 and grants access to the nature park, the soft play area, and the cafe.
Erik Rohrkaste, curator at the Green Planet, emphasizes the educational aspect of the park, particularly in educating children about animals. The Green Planet already has an extensive school program and welcomes numerous field trips throughout the academic year. Erik believes that seeing animals in real life, rather than just in books, offers a unique and tangible experience for children. The immersive nature of the park also creates a bonding opportunity for families, allowing them to walk through the animals’ natural habitats and witness them up close. Erik hopes that this experience will inspire awareness and conservation efforts.
As a curator, Erik is responsible for overseeing the animals, the exhibit design, and the educational material within the bio-dome. The Green Planet places a strong emphasis on conservation and aims to raise awareness for animals and species in need of protection.
Established in 2016, the Green Planet is one of the few indoor rainforests in the region. It is home to over 3,000 plants and animals, including birds, reptiles, and fish.
The new outdoor nature park at the Green Planet offers an exciting and educational experience for both children and adults, with its diverse range of attractions and focus on conservation. Visitors can immerse themselves in the wonders of nature and learn about the importance of preserving our planet’s biodiversity.
