Dubai Municipality Launches Comprehensive ‘Building in Dubai’ Platform to Transform Construction Industry

Dubai Municipality has introduced its new ‘Building in Dubai’ platform, a cutting-edge suite of services tailored for the construction industry. This move underscores Dubai’s commitment to digital transformation and showcases the Municipality’s dedication to innovative solutions driven by smart systems. The platform, unveiled by Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, during GITEX GLOBAL, offers an extensive range of services, information, and processes related to the construction sector.

The ‘Building in Dubai’ platform is designed for stakeholders in the industry, including property owners, developers, consultants, and contractors. It aims to enhance project sustainability and strengthen Dubai’s global competitiveness in the construction sector, which is known for its progressive nature. Al Hajri emphasized that the platform reinforces Dubai’s position as a global leader in leveraging technology and digital transformation to enhance the construction and building sector.

During the launch, Al Hajri stated, “The ‘Building in Dubai’ platform, launched during GITEX Global 2023, offers a range of construction-related services on one platform. It acts as a proactive and user-friendly digital service system that reduces hassle, saves time, and increases project owners’ satisfaction. The platform reflects our efforts to establish an intelligent, sustainable, and globally advanced construction sector by utilizing the latest technological innovations to provide superior construction permit services.” He further added that the Municipality is spearheading digital transformation in the construction sector by collaborating with partners and implementing Building Information Modelling (BIM) to create a ‘digital twin’ of Dubai.

Mariam Al Muhairi, Acting CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the constant efforts being made to enhance building design standards. She emphasized the importance of deploying BIM across the building lifecycle to achieve cost savings, shorter project timelines, faster permit issuance, improved construction and operational process efficiency, and reduced reliance on unskilled labor. In line with this, Dubai Municipality issued the first building permit utilizing automated auditing technology for a commercial residential tower in the Almerkadh area. The tower, designed in accordance with Dubai’s BIM standards and specifications, showcases Dubai’s global leadership in automated auditing in building designs.

The ‘Building in Dubai’ platform complies with the requirements of Dubai Digital Authority’s ‘Digital City Experiences’, providing an inclusive digital experience for property owners throughout the construction journey. It offers comprehensive information on projects, including land and building details, construction stages, a construction consultant directory, contract templates, and a list of registered consultants and contractors. The platform also incorporates cutting-edge technological innovations, such as automated auditing of building designs using BIM, intelligent inspection, and the deployment of artificial intelligence.

Dubai Municipality aims to consolidate all construction-related services on the platform, including services offered by government and private sector partners such as the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and Dubai Civil Defense. The platform will provide essential services for property owners, developers, consultants, and contractors, covering all stages of the construction process, from land acquisition to completion, maintenance, and even demolition.
