Indian-origin software engineer Ashok Elluswamy has been revealed as the first employee hired for Tesla’s Autopilot team. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, announced this in a tweet. Elluswamy, who has been with the company for over eight years, is currently the head of Autopilot engineering. Musk also mentioned that Andrej Karpathy is the director of AI for Tesla. Elluswamy joined Tesla in January 2014 as a Software Engineer for the Autopilot division and has since developed various modules for the Autopilot system. He was promoted multiple times within the company and now holds the position of Director of Autopilot Software. Prior to working at Tesla, Elluswamy was associated with Volkswagen Electronic Research Lab and WABCO Vehicle Control System. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and a Master’s degree in Robotics System Development.
