Third Wave, a Japanese firm, is set to launch a groundbreaking ‘GPU cloud’ service that allows users to run generative AI workloads directly from their own PCs. This new service, called Raytrek Cloud, eliminates the need for high-end PCs or GPUs, as Third Wave will indirectly lease the required compute resources. With AI gaining more traction, Third Wave aims to provide a cost-effective solution for individuals and businesses to tap into the power of AI.
The announcement of Third Wave’s GPU cloud was made at Dospara Plus Synapse 2023, where the company also revealed its focus on servers and workstations for AI. This includes the development and distribution of hardware specifically designed for AI applications.
As part of its expansion, Third Wave unveiled five new products, including the X4630 workstation equipped with a 4th-Gen Xeon Scalable processor and NVIDIA’s RTX6000 Ada GPU. This aligns with the company’s recent reorganization, separating its consumer and gaming PCs under the GALLERIA brand and its enterprise-centric hardware under Raytrek.
The launch of Raytrek Cloud is a response to the ever-increasing amount of data available, with 60 times more data being produced now compared to a decade ago. Akiya Ida, Director, Senior Executive Officer, and VP of Third Wave, emphasized the power consumption issues caused by data centers used for cloud services, suggesting that future AI systems will rely on both cloud-based and on-premises solutions.
Raytrek Cloud offers businesses the ability to access remote workstations through a desktop as a service (DaaS) offering. This allows for tasks such as computer-aided design (CAD) or building information modeling (BIM). Additionally, users can utilize the GPU service to run high-performance computing simulations and generative AI workloads.
Third Wave aims to position itself as the most affordable AI cloud service provider, with monthly fees that are half to a third less than major competitors. The service also offers a pay-as-you-go model, allowing users to utilize the platform on an hourly basis or in small increments.
Through the introduction of Raytrek Cloud, Third Wave is making AI more accessible and affordable for individuals and businesses alike, showcasing their commitment to staying ahead in the AI industry. This strategic move will undoubtedly generate substantial interest in the market and position Third Wave as a major player in the GPU cloud space.
