Shepard couldn’t help but worry, especially after hearing about a girl who fell and suffered a serious injury the day prior.

In addition to the physical challenge, the mountain’s history adds an eerie element to the experience. Le Morne is a UNESCO World Heritage Site dedicated to the escaped slaves who jumped off its summit to evade capture. Shephard emphasizes that the reality of the climb is far from the polished Instagram photos, with dust and dirt coating everything. The volcanic rock becomes scorching hot after 8:30 am, making gloves a recommended accessory.

Admiring Sheikh Hamdan’s resilience, Shephard acknowledges that even as a Crown Prince, there are no alternative or more comfortable routes up Le Morne. It serves as a reminder of the gap between social media and reality. Shephard encourages those who enjoy challenges, are physically fit, and comfortable with heights to attempt the climb. Starting early in the morning, bringing water, and hiring a local guide are essential for a successful ascent.
